Happy Superbowl Weekend, Ad Kids!

I'm heading out of town this weekend to New Orleans for some pre-Mardi Gras fun. Not going to write much about the Superbowl except to throw some media buyer trivia at ya: spots went for an average $2.5 mil this year ::low whistle::

You can go here or here or here to read all about the commercials. Then you can be that guy at the party telling everyone to, "shhh...I really wanna see this one. It's supposed to be really good! shhh..."

So no posting for a few days. I'm sure there will be plenty to write upon return. See ya!

Opportunistic Media Budgets Save the Day

I first read about opportunistic media budgets on MediaPost's Online Spin here. Ever since, I've been certain to allocate a portion of all budgets towards an unexpected opportunity, which, I guarantee, will show up. I have never had an opportunistic media budget not be utilized in some way.

Recently, a client of mine decided that a sizable chunk of media money had to be cut to fund another activity (that's a whole other argument). Sadly, I opened my spreadsheet to see which unfortunate sales rep would get the cancellation call. But wait, there was my opportunistic media budget! And what a coincidence, that budget covered exactly the amount that our client would have had to cut from media already scheduled and running. So fellow planners/buyers, you never know when you'll use these funds...they can save you and your reps butts!

America Runs on Dunkin'

The song in this Dunkin' Donuts commercial is hilarious. I hope they use it for radio. I don't know what it is about Dunkin' Donuts that I love so much. Maybe because dunking things is kinda fun?

And look, I'm posting more than once a week! I'm slightly more productive now...YES!

REAL[ITY] CHECK - 1/25/2008

As Michelle said, I'm a complete reality show junkie, so each week I'll be summing up what I believe to be the most outstanding/craziest/rock-bottom moments in reality shows for the week.

So here they are:
  • This week on Project Runway, their challenge was to "create an iconic look that captures the spirit of the 501 legacy (I wonder how long they agonized over this sentence before finalizing it)". Here's my beef: Rami made a skirt and top out of dark denim with zippers as accent seams (See here). The judges fawned over how "innovative" the zippers as seams were. They would have been innovative if Jeffrey, the winner of last season hadn't done the same thing, only better:

  • The best part of the premiere of The Millionaire Matchmaker came during the never-before-seen-footage of The Real Housewives of Orange County during a commercial break, in which Vicki, one of the housewives, says that her doctor had run a test on her and it came back that she had as much testosterone as the average man. If you've ever watched the show, you won't be surprised to learn this.
  • On the premiere of The Gauntlet III, CT says that he is going to "make it a point to lay a little lower". He accomplishes this by getting in the face of quite possibly the most notorious contestant in Challenge history, Coral, and causing problems in his relationship... all in the first night. And apparently Crazypants Brooke is a lesbian now? Crazy. Pants.
  • And on Make Me A Supermodel, it's business as usual: All S&M, All the Time.
  • This remix of Tanisha from The Bad Girls' Club's freak out is better than half of the stuff on the radio (See here).
  • Only a Matter of Time: A dating show called The Drew Peterson Dating Game was pitched to an Illinois radio station by the lawyer of the police sergeant suspected of killing his wife, and who is also being investigated for his previous wife's suspicious death (Story). The radio station didn't bite, but I know there's some sleazeball exec pushing hardcore for this to be the new show in VH1's dating show lineup. 25 to Life of Love anyone?

New year, new blog

Who doesn't love a fresh start? A new beginning? Renewal? Reincarnation? Rebirth? Ok, I think you get the point. I love starting over and making changes. Whether it's how my desk is organized or a new outfit, I love it. Of course, I've been wanting to re-do my blog for a while now...so here it is! And it will keep improving (hopefully) as I learn more.

Change to note - I have a co-author! One of my closest friends and reality show addict, Heather - aka - "The Realest" will be providing the "Reality Show Update." The addition of her unique perspective will definitely enhance this blog. And, be sure to check out her blog, Get Real[er].

So thanks for visiting...more posts to come soon!
